SCRIPTURE

During the year 2005 a series of five talks on the Old Testament and five talks on the New Testament were presented at the Adult Education Program of St. Joseph  parish in Columbia SC.  Subsequently they were posted on the website www.rciaresources.com.   They may be too detailed for inclusion in the book which is the subject matter for this website, but they are repeated here since they might be of interest to some of the present viewers.  The follow up talks presented at St. Joseph’s on the early writings of the Christian Church are provided on the Tradition page of this website.

Also listed on the sidebar is a Chapter on Editing Scripture which gives some insight into the problems involved in making sure that the presently available versions of the texts are accurate reproductions of the original versions.  A second Chapter listed here as Misquoting Jesus critically examines the recent (2005) book by that name.   This one-time best seller gives a false impression of the validity of what we read in the New Testament.  Our chapter emphasizes the duty of scripture scholars to be forthright and not misleading in what they tell us about the Word of God!

RECENT ADDITION TO WEBSITE

August 2009

During January and February of 2009, in recognition of the Pauline Year, five talks on the life and writings of St. Paul were presented at the St. Joseph Adult Education Program.  The first of these talks describes the various events that are narrated in the Acts of the Apostles  until the onset of Paul's first missionary journey.  The second talk continues with the events that took place during Paul's three missionary journeys, ending with and his journey to, and final lodging in, Rome.   The third talk discusses the Pauline Corpus and the four major epistles that he wrote to the Romans, to the Corinthians (I and II), and to the Galatians. The fourth talk discusses the remaining writings of Paul.  The fifth and final talk tells us something about the life of St. Paul, about his companion Barnabas, and about some of the other characters who appear in the Acts of the Apostles.  It then discusses various cities and places that are mentioned in the Acts, and ends with some comments on the legacy of Paul.  The texts of these talks can be accessed from the sidebar.
